Profile: Alexander Handke is a Senior Policy Officer for Bilateral and International Cooperation for Emissions Trading in Division IK III 2 “Legal Issues Climate Policy and Energy, Climate Protection Law; Emissions Trading” at the BMU. At the BMU, he is responsible for bilateral and international cooperation on emissions trading, capacity building and linking.

Experience: He has been involved in the EU ETS, greenhouse gas mitigation projects and other climate-related policies since 2004. Prior to joining the BMU in 2017, he worked with the German Environment Agency/German Emissions Trading Authority for seven years and a German law firm specialising on energy and environmental law for six years.

Expertise: Legal aspects of emissions trading with specific capabilities in MRVA, auctioning, allocation, registry development and the role of an ETS in the policy mix.
